Capitol Police Capitol Complex Improvement District Map
The Office of Capitol Police has released its Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID) Map of its primary areas of jurisdiction in Jackson. The CCID is made up of 5 zones. Although Capitol Police has jurisdiction over the entire city, no officers are assigned to patrol areas outside the CCID. Residents outside the CCID should contact the Jackson Police Department (JPD) for emergencies at 911 and non-emergencies at 601.960.1234. The CCID dispatch is compatible with 911, so residents inside CCID should continue to call 911 for emergencies. The CCID non-emergency dispatch number is 601.359.3125. JPD and Capitol Police have the authority to solicit assistance from one another if needed.
Some neighborhoods have raised concerns about split coverage inside and outside of CCID. According to Capitol Police Lieutenant Jeremy Gordon, if Capitol Police responds to calls from non-CCID residents, then response times could increase for CCID residents. “We have the manpower designated for our patrol zones,” Gordon said. “If we start spreading outside our areas, then the response time in our area could increase from 5 minutes to roughly 20 minutes for CCID residents. So, call JPD. If they need assistance, they will call us and we will come.” The Capitol Police Community Engagement Division is actively attending community events like C.O.P.S. and the upcoming National Night Out on October 1 to educate residents on issues such as this and the purpose and goals of the unit.
