The Ark: Transforming People and Community
The Ark, a non-profit organization under New Horizon Ministries, Inc., is a community center dedicated to community empowerment, restoration, and transformation. It is nestled in south Jackson across from the Alta Woods neighborhood and serves its community via sports, fitness, creative arts, education, and other programming.
JAN visited the massive athletic complex and spoke with its founder Ronnie Crudup, Jr. Crudup is a Jackson native and a proud resident of the Alta Woods neighborhood. He also serves as executive director/administrator for New Horizon Ministries, Inc. and as Mississippi State Representative for District 71. The Ark is a testament to Crudup’s commitment to community health, youth empowerment, and economic development in south Jackson.
“We’ve had this building for about seven years now. We were using it as a flea market for a long time, but the person who was renting it decided his time was up,” said Crudup. “Our youth program and our sports program was growing tremendously and so we decided to take the next step and put it right here.”
